Nigeria’s Decade of Gas initiative

Launched in 2021, Nigeria’s Decade of Gas initiative aims to transform the nation into a gas-powered economy by 2030. With over 210 trillion cubic feet of proven natural gas reserves, the program seeks to boost domestic consumption, reduce flaring, expand gas-to-power, gas-to-industry, gas-to-homes, and elevate export capacity. Key pillars include infrastructure expansion (pipelines, processing, LNG), regulatory reforms to attract investment, and capacity building across the gas value chain. By driving industrialization, addressing energy poverty, and leveraging gas as a cleaner transitional fuel, Decade of Gas represents a strategic effort to align economic growth with environmental sustainability.
